Plain Catty

Plain Catty is a bay roan stallion who achieved the title of National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Champion. He was shown by $1 Million-dollar rider Jake Gorrell, earning an impressive composite score of 657.5. This score included 214.5 in herd work, 218 in rein work, and 225 down the fence, which secured a winning purse of $125,000.

Plain Catty (sired by Bet Hesa Cat and out of Miss Plain Plain, who is by Just Plain Colonel) comes from a pedigree that combines two significant breed lines, creating a unique genetic mix that is prominent in the American Quarter Horse breed.

His sire, Bet Hesa Cat (High Brow Cat x Bet Yer Blue Boons x Freckles Playboy), was crowned the 2011 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Open World Champion, with earnings of $272,000. His dam, Miss Plain Plain (Just Plain Colonel x Miss Master Blaster x Master Remedy), was actively shown in both cutting and reined cow horse events. She demonstrated her versatility by becoming the World’s Greatest Horseman Reserve Champion in 2004 and 2005, accumulating $97,687 in her career.

In examining Plain Catty’s pedigree, it is evident that he is linebred to the Jewel’s Leo Bars/Rey Jay and Doc Bar/Poco Tivio bloodlines, which he carries through both his sire and dam. A breeding pattern known as “returning the blood” is also present; this involves linebreeding by reintroducing the common ancestors from the dam’s pedigree back into the foal through the sire’s lineage, thus enhancing the influence of the sire’s dam.

Plain Catty first gained recognition in 2017 by winning the prestigious NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Championship. His outstanding performance earned him a high score of 657.5, including a remarkable 225 down the fence. This victory not only secured a $125,000 purse but also established him as a top competitor in reined cow horse competitions. His success continued in 2019 when he won the NRCHA National Hackamore Open Championship. Throughout his career, he has consistently reached the finals at every major event, amassing lifetime earnings of $196,245 in Open competition.

Plain Catty’s remarkable pedigree, combined with his impressive performance history, makes him an exceptional choice for breeders looking to produce the next generation of champions. His achievements showcase not only his athleticism and determination but also the rich lineage that has been carefully developed to create a stallion of his caliber.

Currently owned by Paul and Valerie Gober of Collinsville, Texas, Plain Catty stands at Solo Select Horses. He has been tested 7-Panel N/N and EJSCA N/N. His foals are eligible for the NRCHA Cow Horse Incentive Program and the Solo Select Stallion Incentive. As the 2017 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Champion, Plain Catty has proven himself under the guidance of Jake Gorrell. Breeding in 2026 presents a unique opportunity to be part of his legacy, with his first foal crop having been born just last year.
